Think of Food as Fuel
Think of your body as a well-working machine. If you feed your machine the cleanest fuel, it will perform better, faster, stronger, and more efficient. fuel your body... fuel your mind...Your car, just like your body, requires a certain type of fuel and the tank provides that fuel to your engine constantly.
Think about the food that you are putting into your mouth. Is it the fuel that helps it run efficiently or is it sugar (or something that turns into sugar quickly) that can damage your engine. Is it close to its original form? Or is it processed beyond what it was originally meant to be?
Why Eat 6 Times Per Day?
Now, why would I say that you should be eating 6 times a day? Your body requires a consistent influx of fuel so eating smaller portions every 2-3 hours gives your body that consistency.
Eat 3 small meals a day and 3 or more snacks, each meal and snack consisting of a balance of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Your protein portion at your meals should be no larger than the size and thickness of the palm of your hand. When you eat only 3 larger meals a day, your body can typically not use all of the fuel from the food thus will store it as fat leading to being at higher risk for heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. In addition your body experiences an increased insulin reaction which over time can lead to diabetes.
Eating smaller proper meals 6 times a day or every 2-3 hours…
- allows your blood sugar to stay stable
- allows your body to get the constant fuel it needs and not turn the excess into unwanted fat.
- helps prevent over-eating because you never allow yourself to get too hungry.
- allows your energy level to stay consistent throughout the day.
Increase the consumption of high density, low calorie foods, such as vegetables. I always have some lean protein and veggies for dinner, which is completely filling and satisfying. Keep the breads to a minimum and make sure they are whole grain.
Increase the amount of water you drink. Our hunger is sometimes really thirst. In addition, water helps flush out our cells so we can stay healthier.
The biggest thing of all; you don't need to starve yourself in order to lose weight or be healthier. The best 'diet' is one that is not called a diet, but that is seen as an overall healthy food menu that includes all your fuel types in moderation, in proper proportions eaten throughout the day. Moderation is key and, yes, there is such a thing as "too much of a good thing"- so, watch your portions and your timing!

How About A Little Healthy Humor
God created the Heavens and the Earth and populated the Earth
with broccoli, cauliflower and spinach, green, yellow and red vegetables of
all kinds, so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives.
Then using God's great gifts, Satan created Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and Krispy Creme Donuts. And Satan said, "You want chocolate with that?"
And Man said, "Yes!" and Woman said, "and as long as you're at it, add some sprinkles." And they gained 10 pounds. And Satan smiled.
And God created the healthful yogurt that Woman might keep the figure that Man found so fair. And Satan brought forth white flour from the wheat, and sugar from the cane and combined them. And Woman went from size 6 to size 14.
So God said, "Try my fresh green salad." And Satan presented Thousand-Island Dressing, buttery croutons and garlic toast on the side. And Man and Woman unfastened their belts following the repast.
God then said, "I have sent you heart healthy vegetables and olive oil in which to cook them." And Satan brought forth deep fried fish and chicken-fried steak so big it needed its own platter. And Man gained more weight and his cholesterol
went through the roof.
God then created a light, fluffy white cake, named it "Angel Food Cake," and said, "It is good." Satan then created chocolate cake and named it "Devil's Food."
God then brought forth running shoes so that His children might lose those extra pounds. And Satan gave cable TV with a remote control so Man would not have to toil changing the channels. And Man and Woman laughed and cried before the flickering blue light and gained pounds.
Then God brought forth the potato, naturally low in fat and brimming with nutrition. And Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fried them. And Man gained pounds.
God then gave lean beef so that Man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. And Satan created McDonald's and its 99-cent double cheeseburger. Then said, "You want fries with that?" And Man replied, "Yes! And super size them!" And Satan said, "It is good." And Man went into cardiac arrest.
God sighed and created quadruple bypass surgery.
Then Satan created HMOs..
