Candida Yeast Syndrome

Candida Yeast Syndrome is caused by an opportunistic fungus that normally inhabits the mouth, throat, gastrointestinal tract and vagina. In a healthy state the amount of Candida in the intestinal tract is controlled by your beneficial bacteria.

However, the beneficial bacteria can be knocked out by our diet and other insults to our body.

When you take broad spectrum antibiotics [“Anti” (against) and “Biotic” (life)] the beneficial bacteria are affected. The word “Anti” mean against and “Biotic” means life.

It’s the job of antibiotics to kill bacteria. They are indiscriminate killers; so not only do they kill off the bad bacteria that was causing the problem but they also killed off all of the friendly bacteria left. The candida yeast are not affected, so they multiply and put out toxins that further weaken our immune system.

Consequently, you may experience repeated infections, and these infections may be treated with antibiotics, encouraging further growth of candida and a vicious cycle.

Stanford University studies report a 497% increase in systemic infections in humans in the past ten years due to overuse of antibiotics and stress.

What Do You Do?

Its important to support your body and intestinal tract with a supplement that supports the good bacteria and depletes the candida. And also to get on a beneficial diet for candida yeast elimination.

I recently came upon a great resource on how to handle candida with the Natural Candida Cleanse book.

Not sure if you have Candida.....take the Candida Spit Test.

What can Candida Yeast Syndrome lead to...
Based on clinical and research studies, candida overgrowth in your intestines may create what has been called “Leaky Gut Syndrome”.

The yeast that’s living in your gut begins to overgrow and as it overgrows it changes into a fungus. As a fungus it sends out rhizoids that are like little tree roots that actually poke holes in the lining of your intestinal wall.

The function of your lining it is to be semi-permeable. Meaning that some things like vitamins and minerals are supposed to pass through. But because your intestinal lining has been damaged and weakened it now becomes like a wide open door and anything including toxins can filter from your digestive tract into your blood supply.

Healing leaky gut can be a great health benefit. Toxins and food allergens may pass through this membrane and go to other parts of the body.

Candida Yeast Syndrome Factors
Some of the factors that promote candida overgrowth are:

  • Frequent or long term use of antibiotics, such as tetracycline for acne
  • Infections that lower the immune system, such as in the ears, bladder, vagina, or throat
  • Poor diet (high carbohydrate and sugary foods)
  • Stress or trauma
  • Birth control pill use and hormone replacement therapy in women
  • Regular use of cortisone-type drugs
Interesting Fact!! You should have two to three pounds of intestinal flora living in your descending colon alone. Most people in North America have less than two to three tablespoons!

There are many effective herbs and natural remedies that can be used, so let us know if you want a more personalized consultation.
