Iodized Salt for the Salt Water Cleanse?
Can I use iodized sea salt for cleansing and will it work?
Terri's Response:That is a very common question for people on the
master cleanse. Since most people have iodized on hand but don't use sea salt.....yet.
I highly promote the use of
sea salt for not only cleansing but for everyday use. We no longer even have the iodized version in our home.
First for the flush, if you use iodized, the flush won't work. The trace minerals from the sea salt and its ability to take on the same sodium level (when mixed with specific amounts of water) as your blood is what makes it so successful.
From the flavoring point of view, the iodized version does taste saltier as it is more refined. Whereas the seasalt contains trace minerals as well as the sodium and iodine. Iodized was originally created so the general population would get additional iodine in their diet to prevent thyroid problems.
Now some folks argue that the minerals in the seasalt are minimal. However, we do need only trace amounts of them so I feel like my family can use the extra minerals for a healthier body.
