pH Level

by Terri David

The ideal pH level (acid/alkaline) in the human body is between 6.0 and 6.8. Anything below is acidic and anything above is alkaline.

Here are some of the likely symptoms you might have if your system is over-acidic: dry, hard stools, frequent sighing, insomnia, recessed eyes, migraine headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, alternating diarrhea and constipation, sensitive teeth.

An over acid system loses its alkaline reserves. Some of the causes are improper diet, anger, stress, fear, anorexia, toxemia, fever, excessive amounts of vitamin C, niacin or aspirin. Diabetics often suffer from an over-acid system and stomach ulcers are often associated with an imbalance in your acid/alkaline level.

In addition, your system will have a difficult time assimilating nutrients if you are too acidic or too alkaline. So your body may not be getting any nutrition from the food is does take in.

How do you know if your pH level is in range? Simply purchase pH paper at any drugstore or pharmacy. You apply saliva and/or urine to the paper and you measure the color against the chart on the container and you will have your answer.

So, which foods to eat and which foods not too…so glad you asked.

ACID FORMING foods:

Alcohol, Asparagus, Beans, Brussel Sprouts, Catsup, Chickpeas, Cocoa, Coffee, Cornstarch, Cranberries, Eggs, Fish, Flour, Legumes, Lentils, Meat, Milk, Mustard, Noodles, Oatmeal, Olives, Organ meats, Pasta, Pepper, Plums, Poultry, Prunes, Sauerkraut, Shellfish, Soft Drinks, Sugar and foods with sugar added, Tea, Vinegar.

Well, I am not sure about you but for me, that pretty much covers my entire diet. Now that also might explain why your acid/alkaline balance is off and your system is over-acidic.

ALKALINE FORMING foods:

Avocados, Corn, Dates, Fresh Coconut, Most Fresh Fruits, Most Fresh Vegetables, Honey, Maple Syrup, Molasses, Raisins, Soy Products.

Although is seems that citrus fruits would make you body more acidic, the citric acid in them have an alkalizing effect on your system.

The overall theme here is EAT MORE FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES and take the sugar and caffeine out of your diet.

If you have trouble with getting the greens in, take a green supplement. Since the greens have such an alkalizing effect, when you take a supplement you can quickly get your body back at an optimal acid/alkaline level.

There are products from pHion that are all natural for general acid/alkaline testing and wellness.
