Can't Stay on My Program!

Hi ,

One of the hardest things for me to do is to stay on my eating program and go to a potluck party.

Everyone brings such interesting foods: a new pasta salad, homemade brownies, mini key lime pies, etc. I love food and these things can be so tempting for me.

Hard to take control when presented with such delectable tidbits. However, I do have a few tricks to help me stay focused, healthy, young and ON my eating program.

1. Always take a dish that is on your eating program. So no matter what is there that I shouldn't eat, I will always have something that works for me.

2. Choose your indulgence. Since I try to stay away from carbs, I don't usually take the pasta salad and I would rather cheat on the key lime pie or brownies.

3. Allow yourself some leeway when you attend a party. I give myself permission before I go as well as limitations. Though I might not know what is being served, there are usually vegetables and protein of some sort. I take those first and allow my self one dessert. But what if there are two that look especially yummy? I will take 1/2 of each.

4. Full but wanting to eat more. My sister-in-law taught me this one. Sprinkle pepper on your dessert - usually a sure turn off and removes the temptation to finish it.

As always, my eating program focus is to stay low glyemic as much as possible with lots of fresh fruits and veggies.
